Hello! My name is Kelton Johnson and I am a nature photographer based in Utah. Though its embarrassing to admit…I first picked up a camera simply because it was a gadget that interested me. I have always been a tinkerer and enjoyed learning how things work. But over time I realized that I wasn’t using the camera for the technicality of it anymore, but rather something far greater and long lasting. Though the reasons are numerous now, one that stands out is many of my passions/interests were being merged and utilized through the camera.
Whether it's flying airplanes, looking for animals, observing the night sky, geology, paleontology, backpacking, kayaking, etc. There's never a shortage of hobbies that keep me busy. However, by choosing one, I didn't get to fully enjoy the other. Photography has allowed me to enjoy all of them. Hence why my favorite types of photography are wildlife, night sky, and aviation.
What are my goals
First, I want to teach and make aware of the awesome wildlife surrounding us. Each species is remarkable in their own way, and I consider myself lucky to enter into a glimpse of their lives and document it. Sadly, many species are at risk from human causes. How shameful would it be for us to not try and protect the only Earth we have. Though we may not see a direct link between us and wildlife, nature's domino effect will create that link for us.
Second, I want people to realize the beauty in our night sky. So much of our daily lives we look at our place in the dirt and never stop to look up. Back in 1994 a power outage in LA caused mass calls to Griffith Observatory and 911 claiming something strange was in the sky. What these folks were seeing was the Milky Way. What a sad thought. Now 30 years later, light pollution has only gotten worse, to the point where most of humanity will never see the Milky Way with their own eyes. We have gone from planning entire wars and building massive long lasting structures based on the alignment of the stars, to cities and towns that will only ever see the light of the Moon. Not only do I think that this is sad but honestly...dangerous.
There is endless beauty in the night sky, so much perspective that we are losing. I want people to every once in a while look at their place in the stars instead of constantly looking down at their place in the dirt. I hope that through my photography, the artistry of space can inspire someone to look up.

We came all this way to explore the Moon, and the most important thing is that we discovered the Earth
